WomenVenture Announces 2012 Award Winners

Two Local Women-Owned Businesses Honored at Fall Event

On October 12, more than 1,000 community members and leaders will gather at The Depot in Minneapolis to celebrate women in business at WomenVenture's Fall Event.  The annual fundraising luncheon will feature an awards ceremony recognizing the accomplishments of two local women-owned businesses--Appmosphere and The HopeFULL Company.  The Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained award recipients will be featured in a video production capturing their journeys to becoming successful entrepreneurs, and will be presented with a unique plaque.

WomenVenture has been dedicated to providing women with the tools and resources to achieve economic success for more than 30 years.  Last year, the organization stimulated the economy by helping start, expand or strengthen 113 small businesses like Appmosphere and The HopeFULL Company through its entrepreneurial development classes and services.  Those businesses created 74 jobs, an estimated $1.6 million in new salaried income, and generated more than $60,000 in individual income tax.

Through its microloan program, WomenVenture loaned $277,000 to 14 business development clients.  At the end of the year, its outstanding loan portfolio was $675,000, and had a low average default rate of four percent.
