Are WomenVenture classes and services open to men as well as to women?
Yes, about 11% of our clients are men. WomenVenture does not discriminate by gender. There are a few classes or services that are exclusively for women. Those are noted in the catalog and in online class descriptions.
How can you guide me in my career change?
We have classes (Get Hired!, Pursue Your Passion and Purpose), one-to-one consulting and coaching, and assessments (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, StrengthsFinder and Strong Interest Inventory). WomenVenture has helped thousands of individuals find new careers or better manage their current career.
How is life coaching different than career consulting?
Life Coaching is a specialized form of consulting provided by coaches who have received extensive training in coaching techniques. Life Coaching is an ongoing, scheduled relationship between client and coach, usually occurring on a weekly basis, allowing for increased accountability. Life coaches offer a broad-scope approach, focused on understanding your values, passions and goals. Offering hands-on advice and direction is not the main focus of Life Coaching, as it is in Career Consulting. Through Life Coaching you can establish a foundation from which to base life decisions and draw motivation to achieve your goals.
Do you ever offer your career services to outside organizations?
Yes, we do, through our Customized Training Services division. These services help employees become more motivated, productive, better career managers and ultimately contribute more toward their organization's success. link to possible page
Can you get me a job?
We do not offer job placement services or find job leads for you. However, we can help you learn how to be more effective at finding and obtaining employment, and at managing your career. Our Career Development Path offers tools to assess your skills and interests to better understand who you are, what you have to offer and what makes you happy key to finding a job that is right for you. How long does it take to get a business loan?
Once you have had one of our Business Consultants review your business plan and other required documentation, it generally takes 6 to 8 weeks to process the loan, depending on the amount requested.
Do you write business plans?
As an entrepreneur, it's up to you to write your business plan. WomenVenture offers one-on-one Business Consulting, so you have expertise and guidance as you draft your business plan. Our Planning to Succeed course also focuses on everything you need to know to write your business plan.
Do you have grants for business owners?
No, at this time WomenVenture does not offer grants. Talk to your local library reference desk to help you research grant programs or do an Internet search with the keyword "grants." You can also contact your local Neighborhood Development Center or Chamber of Commerce.
Do you have business loans?
WomenVenture offers access to capital through microloans, from $500 to $50,000, to qualified new and existing businesses. We also partner with a variety of lending institutions on larger financing needs. How can I get a business loan?
In addition to the loan application, applicants must provide a solid business plan with cash flow projections for two years. WomenVenture teaches you how to create cash flow projections as part of the Planning to Succeed course, or you can receive one-on-one guidance through Business Consulting appointments. Our Planning to Succeed course is also an excellent way to become skilled at creating your own business plan.
Does WomenVenture charge for classes and services?
Yes. Prices vary depending on the service. Attend our free orientation session, The Best Place to Start, to receive a discount coupon applicable toward the class or service of your choice, and to hear details about our sliding fee scale.
If I can’t afford the tuition or fees, may I get classes or services free of charge?
WomenVenture offers a sliding scale based on household income and household size. You may qualify for a tuition reduction of up to 50% off the published prices of Entrepreneurship Path classes and services, and/or up to 90% off Career Development Path classes and services. In addition, women with low incomes who are interested in pursuing traditionally male-dominated careers may qualify for our free Women Can Do It! program.
