Meet Financial Literacy Client, Julie Gartrell
Competing in today's business world is not easy, but it can be especially difficult for small business owners who need expensive tools to subsist. Wanting to manage and operate her salon more efficiently, Julie Gartrell, owner of Creshendo Studio for Hair, enrolled in WomenVenture's FAIM program. In addition to teaching Gartrell how to manage money wisely, FAIM provided her with a $3-to-$1 matched savings account and guidance from a business consultant; giving her the tools and knowledge to build a strong business.
Gartrell used earnings from her matched savings to purchase salon management software, a cell phone and a credit card machine. Gartrell says FAIM positively impacted her business because, "it helped to bring me into the 21st century, it brought me up to speed and made me able to compete with bigger salons." Gartrell says FAIM has also changed her personally. "I feel different. I feel liberated and empowered."
