Karen Malmsten

Chief Financial Officer | kmalmsten@womenventure.org

Karen has lived in the Minneapolis area all her life. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Accounting and began her career in healthcare auditing and consulting. She prepared financial forecasts for hospitals seeking to issue revenue bonds for improvement and expansion projects. She has also worked for health care organizations, as well as privately held companies in the area.

Karen stepped away from corporate life to raise her family. During this time, she volunteered with Cub Scouts (excelling at running wreath sales and setting up tents), Girl Scouts, and the Eden Prairie Soccer Association (coaching U10, banking the registration proceeds, and selling hooded sweatshirts and wind pants on the fields). She also headed up treasurer responsibilities at her church and for the church women’s organization, which raised $25,000 each year through rummage sales. Funds from the sales were then returned to women and children’s missions locally, nationally, and globally.

Karen joined WomenVenture in May 2017. She is excited to support the organization and its mission.

Her other activities include reading, copper wire jewelry making, preserving wild grape jelly, and enjoying vacations near Grand Marais.
