The Talk Toolbox is a parenting aid for every guardian. Once Keely Wolter, a mom of two and Founder of The Talk Toolbox, began to research sex-education offerings among schools, cities, states, and countries, she was astounded by the lack of consistent standards for young children. With the goal of building a “confident, informed human,” Keely set out to create a set of subscription boxes designed to help parents engage in safe, comfortable discussions that support their children’s learning and growth. With four subscription boxes tailored to different age groups, The Talk Toolbox is designed to be accessible and meet the needs of children and parents from childhood to puberty.
Keely began her relationship with WomenVenture a decade ago when she took a course to launch her freelance art career. Powered by the hope that others would share her vision of The Talk Toolbox, she returned to WomenVenture in 2023 for additional counseling and support specific to her idea – and to enroll in the Small Business Essentials course. Keely credits much of her business structure to the learning done in the course. Not only did she gain expertise, but she also gained mentorship. According to Keely, WomenVenture staff have been “incredible cheerleaders” through continued connection, conversations, and support. She also expressed that WomenVenture helped “solidify her vision, why she wanted to [create her business], and how she talks about [the business] with people.” In fact, the name “The Talk Toolbox” was finalized in the course.
Since the Business Essentials course, Keely has partnered with Rendezvous Creative design firm to solidify the branding, design, and overall business vision for The Talk Toolbox. She also contracted with sex educator, Dr. Kristen Mark, for curriculum building. Through these partnerships, The Talk Toolbox is now a polished final product, which has allowed Keely to participate in the semifinals of the Minnesota Cup, a state-wide startup competition. This experience has provided “additional mentorship and structure”, ultimately aiding business building.
Fueled by inspiring moments like the launching of the company website and receiving her first prototype, The Talk Toolbox is now focused on building community and marketing strategy refinement, all while expanding waitlists for new toolboxes. In the future, Keely has plans to continue her inspirational work and grow the online presences of The Talk Toolbox through online moderated discussion groups and downloadable toolboxes.
